Forge FC's Garven Metusala has been called up to the Haiti national team for the World Cup, replacing Leverton Pierre who suffered an injury. Metusala has made 15 appearances for Les Grenadiers and was with the team when it qualified for the World Cup last November. He will join his Colorado Switchbacks teammate Duke Lacroix for the tournament. Metusala is a two-time Canadian Premier League champion, having spent four seasons in Hamilton before his move to Colorado. He made 113 appearances for the Forge FC overall, proving to be an incredible pickup from the CPL-U SPORTS Draft in 2021. Both Metusala and Joel Waterman arrived to the CPL through the university draft, lending credence that there's plenty of talent within Canadian borders that doesn't always arrive through the traditional academy pipelines. Haiti, who qualified for the World Cup despite not being able to play at home since 2021, face a tough group against Scotland, Brazil, and Morocco. Metusala isn't the only member on the Haiti team who also holds Canadian citizenship, with third-string keeper Josue Durverger having been born in Montreal. It's been quite a neat week for former CPL athletes in relation to the World Cup, with former Pacific FC keeper Maxime Crépeau finding his way into the Canada camp as a training player.
